HR plays a key role in developing, reinforcing, and changing the culture of an organisation. Pay, performance management, training and development, recruitment and onboarding and reinforcing the values of the business are all essential elements of business culture covered by HR. Some of the ways in which HR can contribute are in Budget Control, Employee Satisfaction, Conflict Resolution, Performance Improvement, Training and Development. As such it is important that the HR department itself is equipped with the latest in terms of not only technologies, but also in terms of business processes, laws and latest regulations in order to best serve its people.

Finterra recently had members of its HR team successfully complete 3 separate trainings which were delivered by MyFreelys Academy on vital HR related topics aimed at improving, strengthening, and instilling HR best practices for the overall HR management of its personnel. The three topics covered over three days included “Vital HR & IR Knowledge for Manager and Human Resource Departments” which focussed on areas such as probation periods, converting on-probation employees into permanent employees, terminations, issuance of show cause letter, misconduct to name a few. The second session covered “Practical approach to workplace sexual harassment”. This focussed on the types of sexual harassment, ways in which employees can report these cases, ways in which the HR Department needs to react, investigate, and handle these cases. Lastly, the third topic covered was “How to legally handle issues of poor performance and misconduct in the workplace”. This focussed on employee managing poor performance, how to address it and what steps to be taken in improving performance of employees.

Finterra has always been a believer of building a working environment and team based on knowledge. It continues to have it employees attend trainings to better equip themselves areas of business process knowledge and key areas of specialisation that will in turn benefit the company as a whole.
